Election

I wondered what people who read my site think of this years crappy election? I can't stand the options. You have John the bill of rights should be used for toilet paper McCain. You've got Barack the United States has spent the last 200 years trying to prevent a black man from doing anything beyond shining shoes Obama. Neither are worth a fart sniff as far as I can tell. I'm thinking I need to go 3rd party this year and vote Bob Barr, but then I don't know. I want a candidate that thinks a man should be responsible for themselves. That is certainly not Barack, McCain at least shoes a little bit of responsibility. McCain thinks the world is going to come to an end because of the government not passing laws. How stupid is that, we are going to cause the globe to overheat and we'll all die if the mighty US government doesn't save us. I just can't vote for a person who believes the government is the solution to our problems. The government getting out of the way and letting people solve things is how it should work. Thats my opinion anyway, what is yours?

I might be mistaken, but I

I might be mistaken, but I can't remember any instances of Obama playing the race card. It's one of the things I like about him. Neither candidate is ideal, but you can't make it that far in politics without being a little bit slimy. And I think both will respect the Constitution more than the current administration, so I feel encouraged.

Somethings go without saying

He's attended a church for 20 years with his wife and kids were the pastor says things like "god damn America" and "the US of KKK" A man who disagree's with that stance wouldn't want himself or his wife to hear things like that. If he did regularly attend a place that he didn't agree with the things being said just for political reasons then he is a dishonest political opportunist which is one of the things he claims needs to be changed. My biggest problems with him however is his complete lack of understanding of basic economics. (most democrats don't either) they all think money disappears when someone spends it. That is what leads to ideals like taxing the "oil companies" for high gas prices. If you tax them then in order to maintain profits they will raise prices. The price is as low as the stockholders and market will allow or else they would lose out to a competitor. Instead of trying to tax our way out of the energy crisis we should reduce regulation on drilling so we can get more oil from alaska, and the coastlines. This provides good jobs to thousands of people, produces more oil which leads to more profits for shareholders (school teachers to factory workers across the country) and overall improves our economic strength world wide. Niether candidate is strong on this but Obama is obviously completely uninformed or pandering to his base either way I don't respect that. John McCain is an idiot worse than Bush, but at least he doesn't think the word "profit" is a bad word by people smoking gold plated cigars at their secret island base with a volcano shaped like a scull.

Randian

I am quite familiar with libertarian ideology, and I even mostly agree with it. Believe it or not, I voted for Harry Browne in 2000! And I certainly do not identify as a democrat, even though I will be voting for Obama. That has much more to do with the war than any economic policy. I actually have quite the contrarian position on oil. I am not interested in taxing oil companies, although I would like to see corporate subsidies disappear. I am also not interested in allowing drilling in Alaska or anywhere else (that gas might be much more valuable in 10, 20, or 30 years, so I see no need to waste it right now). I think higher gas prices are the best thing that could possibly happen to this country. I cheer every time the price goes up. I am seriously hoping for $8-10/gallon within the next few years. An oil-based economy is not practical considering the world political climate and the fixed supply, and market forces are the only ones that will spur the innovation necessary to get to something else. Feel free to email me and continue - I adore arguing politics and usually have no one but my father-in-law to do it with! Cheers! (p.s. your captcha is quite difficult)

Obama vs. McCain

Another friend of mine told me he'd rather vote for Mickey Mouse to which I replied that Mickey might be more conservative then McCain. Shayne, I'm right with you on this one. I have to strongly consider voting 3rd party but I may end up voting for McCain as itwould be my most effective vote against Obama.
