Dragon Ball Z: Origins - dated for Europe
Well…isn’t this guy happy?! No, I don’t know who he is. I used to watch Dragon Ball Z back in the day, but I never really got hardcore into it. It was just something to watch before the school bus came to pick me up. For every non-watcher like me, there are 10 people that can’t wait for this game. If you live in Europe, you can be happy knowing that the game has received an official release date of December 5th. Keep your fingers crossed…let’s hope this date sticks!
The voice of Spore
Spore is finally unleashed upon us, and the gaming world is sitting up to take notice. The reviews may not be 10s all across the board, but they are still impressive. Spore has been the focus of the game industry for a long time now, and with people finally getting their hands on the finished product, we can see that it means something very big…for the game industry. Spore really could usher in a new type of game, and a new way of thinking for the entire industry. That goes for all platforms, companies, devs, and publishers.
Steven Fawkner talks puzzle questing of all sorts
A portion of a PALGN interview with Steve Fawkner, CEO of Infinite Interactive…
PALGN: …So okay, with Neopets Puzzle Adventure, how did your relationship with Nickelodeon and Neopets come about? That’s quite an interesting direction, quite a large thing actually, given the size of Neopets.
SF: Yeah you know, Neopets is an absolutely huge thing, I didn’t realise how huge until I actually looked at it. Capcom - we have known a lot of the guys at Capcom for quite awhile - their agent, Ed Daly … who looks after all of their deals in the U.S, he knows the guys at Capcom pretty well. They were looking to do a Neopets game with Nickelodeon, and they were all big Puzzle Quest fans, so they approached us and said, ‘You guys interested in doing kind of a Puzzle Quest-ishy Neopets game?’ and I took it back to the studio and said to the guys, ‘Hey guys are we interested in doing this?’ because I like to run it past the people here first. I was surprised how many people in the studio actually played Neopets, it was a bit of a shock to me actually…
When will TV shows represent gaming correctly?
How many times have you seen TV shows that feature game systems, but the games that show up aren’t real, or are misrepresented to the point where it makes you sick? Most of the time, the graphics seem to be okay, but the sound is something straight out of an arcade. Also, whenever we see the characters that are playing the games, they are holding/using the controllers in ways that make no sense. How come video games are worth featuring in TV shows, but no one can be bothered to make it a little more realistic?
The PicoCube
An 80Gig SATA hard drive, Bluetooth receivers, and a slimline slot loading drive all squeezed into a GameCube shell, among other things. This is a pretty sweet design, even if the PC inside isn’t capable of mind-blowing speed. You can check out more pics in this Flickr set. Thanks to The Jumpman for the heads up!
Groovin’ Blocks - interview
A portion of a WiiWare-World interview with Francois Bertrand, the co-founder of Empty Clip Studios…
WW: What controller schemes are supported? Is there any use of the Wii Remote’s motion sensing?
FB: We are supporting both the Wii Remote and the Classic Controller. Although we are excited about motion sensing in games, we wanted to make sure gameplay dictated the control scheme, not the other way around. So after experimenting with a couple of ideas for pointer control and motion sensing, we concluded the game felt much more focused and tight using standard buttons and the Control Pad.
Nintendo World Store - Super Mario Sluggers setup
Reader Kolma was nice enough to snap some pics of the Nintendo World Store setup for Super Mario Sluggers. I didn’t get to see this, since they had the store changed around for Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir. Looks like they did a pretty nice job!
GoNintendo Podcast Webisode 160
This show is a tad shorter than usual. We had to record on Friday, due to a busy Saturday. That’s alright though, we still had plenty to cover. Thankfully, the power stayed on through our storm, which means that the music is back! Let’s see how long that lasts for!

Final Fantasy IV - interview
A portion of a Square Enix North American Members club fan-conducted interview with Executive Producer & Director Takashi Tokita and Music Arranger Junya Nakano…
Fan: With the continuing renewal and re-release of FINAL FANTASY games on specific handheld systems, what is it that most separates FINAL FANTASY IV from the other recently polished titles in the franchise?
Tokita: We aimed to make not just a remake, but one of the highest-quality RPGs that could be played on DS.
It is not a new game by any means, but its influential story featuring male and female characters of all ages has become a staple of FINAL FANTASY storylines, which gives this game its lasting appeal.
Samba de Amigo - review
A portion of a (small) T3 review…
It’s not as cool as Guitar Hero, but get your mates around, don sombreros, fill up on tequila and shake away.
Solving issues with huge muscles
Thank you, Luminous Arc. Thank you for making me chuckle, giving me a new catchphrase, and showing me a new way to live my life.
Two teens microwave cat…and are banned from violent video games
“Two Alberta teenagers who killed a family’s cat in a microwave - a crime that drew outrage from animal lovers around the world - have been banned by a judge from owning animals for at least two years. They’re also barred from owning or playing violent video games for the next year. According to court-ordered psychological assessments, video games were not found to have directly encouraged the boys’ actions. But barring their access to such games was nonetheless a recommendation put forward in the assessments.” - Canwest News Service
So let me get this straight…a psychologist decided that video games were not involved in this horrible crime, but the teens are still banned from violent video games? I mean, if they aren’t old enough to play what they were playing, that is just fine. I am just not sure what video games really have to do with this story, or why a ban was needed.
Underworld: Tomb Raider’s future
Crystal Dynamics are trying something a bit different with Lara Croft this time around. The game doesn’t stray too far from the traditional Tomb Raider games, but it definitely adds in some new gameplay elements, as well as further story development. As with any franchise, Lara needs to continue to evolve. We’ve gotten past the fact that Tomb Raider games are once again great. Now, we need to see some reasons why we should keep returning to raid one more tomb.
